Jaks 2017-2018 Season

Hello, Cast Members, current, past and future:

Hopefully, by the 2017/2018 season we will have a consistent 2 show season. The rehearsal/performance schedule will span the school year, beginning in September and ending in the middle of June.  I am working to set our performances for the middle of February and the beginning of June, every year.  We have not been able to get June dates at the Rose Wagner in the past, but it looks like there are some changes happening at the Rose and we may get the June dates in 2018.  I am working with our events coordinator to secure the dates we need.

This summer, the only dates available were in August.  Summer shows, although we have done them many times, are very difficult.  My experience has been that about 50% of the cast of a summer production can only make about 50% of the rehearsals.  That, as you know means that it takes at least twice as long to complete a scene or dance.  So, this year I am concentrating on the business of JAKS during the summer, promoting and soliciting corporate donations, writing grants, etc. instead of doing a summer show.

The 2017/2018 season will be as follows:
Social Event May 20, 2017 Rehearsals will be scheduled in the near future
JAKS Benefit Concert August 26, 2017 Rehearsal schedule pending
THE MUSIC MAN February 2018
Auditions: Summer 2017 Casting: Summer 2017 and Costume Fittings Barber Shop Quartet Workshops: Summer 2017 Music Man Dance Rehearsals:  July and August 2017 TBA
**I realize that most of you will be taking vacations and will be out of town during the summer. Auditions, Barbershop workshops, and Dance rehearsals during the summer will be scheduled to accommodate everyone’s schedules. So, they may be spread out.
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS June 2018 (assuming there is no problem with rights or venue)

Music Man is an old show, many of you have not seen it.  It’s funny, has familiar music and has a lot of parts.  It has a lot of dancing and ensemble numbers and is generally a very fun show. There is a barbershop quartet that sings throughout the show and the workshops will happen before the auditions.  In order for me to make the schedule to accommodate all of you throughout the summer, I need to know which events you want to participate in, and what your summer schedule is-when you are available.  Thank You.   Jill

Here we go...

Hi everyone!

Tech week is rapidly approaching and we need lots of help to keep the momentum going and be ready for opening NEXT FRIDAY!

If you can provide some extra help please ask Jill, Cori, Stacy, Curtis,  Dirk, Dave or any of our shop builders what you can do to help - I know they are working on a lot of last minute projects!

1) Tickets - Please sell tickets!! A show isn't a show without an audience. Thanks to those who have already sold their 20.  Just to add a little positive competition... I sold 20 and half of our family works the show! If I can do it so can you :)  I will have a treat for everyone who sells more than me, and a grand prize for whomever sells the most! So far Libby is in the lead!  Please keep track of anyone who purchases directly from ArtTix so you can get credit for them as well. Send my your final tally by 2/28.

2) Stage kit donations - There is a link on SignUp for donations.  I will take a look tomorrow and see what is needed.

3) Jill's gift - Don't forget to give your donations to Ashlee or I by 2/15.

4) Program Ads - Thanks to those who have already sent ads, we still have some spots available.  Please let me know if you have anyone who can sponsor Jaks!

5) Badges - If you have a badge and lanyard please bring it!  I will have extras for those who do not have one.

Please let me know if you have ANY questions, you're probably not the only one so speak up and I'll find an answer.

Thanks again for all your time and support!

Beth

CREW NOTES

Hi all -
As discussed in the parent meeting and outlined in the Jaks Handbook each family is required to donate 10 hours of time to the production and now is the time to step up!  In addition to ongoing projects, painting, etc. below is a list of production week opportunities.  Please ensure you sign up on Volunteer Spot below so I can account for your hours.
Please go to this link and enter your name where you can volunteer.

Set Crew AKA PIB
(People in Black) - 8 people needed from 5:00PM to end of show/tech rehearsal.  These people need to be dressed in black from head/neck to toe so you cannot be seen when changing sets during blackouts. It is critical if you plan to work a show you attend at least one tech night to learn the flow of the show.

Greenroom
 - 5 women needed from 5:00PM to end of show/tech rehearsal.  Spend the show in the greenroom helping kids with costume changes, hair and makeup fixes, making sure the kids are not hanging out in the dressing rooms or onstage, make their queues to be on stage and entertaining the little ones.

Hair/Makeup
 - As many as possible from 5:00PM to 7:30PM.  It's exactly what it sounds like - helping the kids with hair and makeup.  We do not require this on Monday and Tuesday tech nights, however if you want to get extra practice or learn specific do's this is a good time.

What to expect
:
We have quite a few new cast members this show so hopefully I can provide some clarity on what to expect during tech week and performance nights.

Tech week is the 4 evenings prior to opening night.  It is equally as important as our shows and therefore we have very high expectations.
  • The first two tech nights (February 13th & 14th) we are working on sound and lighting in addition to running a rehearsal so there may be pausing and waiting for things to come together.  We need all cast members on time (4:00PM-9:00PM – dinner break around 5:30) and paying close attention to learn their queues and the full flow of the show.
  • The last two tech nights (February 15th & 16th) we run the show. Period.  We may as well have an audience because this is full show, cast, crew, etc. doing at least two full runs prior to opening night.  Again the entire cast and crew must be there at 4:00PM.

There will be a crew meeting each evening at 6PM and 1PM for matinee shows, no meeting before Saturday evening shows unless needed.  We will meet at the tables in front of the concessions.

Performance nights we need the entire cast to arrive no later than 5PM, crew at your designated times and stay through the end of the show. For the matinee these times are 12 noon for cast and crew, Saturday evenings 6:00PM and everyone must leave the theatre between the matinee and evening shows.
We understand this is a busy and exhausting week for everyone, parents, cast and crew alike, however if you are new you will find that the energy of the cast (and Jill) is contagious and more than anything it's an incredibly exciting time!

Thanks as always for all of your support.  We wouldn't be successful without the wonderful family, friends and parents of our amazing cast members!  Please reach out with any questions.
Thanks,
Beth
