Rehearsal 11/25 & Sewing

Hi all -

There will be no youth chorus rehearsal tomorrow, 11/25.

Only Tommy, Taylor and Hannah need to be at the Castle for rehearsal from 7-830PM, 11/25.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. AUDITIONS

1. A sign-up sheet for auditions will be posted on Google Docs.  Beth Thomas will send the link for this site.

2. Auditions are held at my house at 2491 S 1150 W, Syracuse.  They are closed

but parents, etc. may wait in the next room.

3. All cast members must audition, even for chorus or ensemble.  This gives me

an opportunity to get to know the cast and where their strengths are.

4. Choose a song from the show to sing.  If you want to try for multiple parts choose a song that each character sings.

5. Be prepared.  Know the lyrics and come prepared to perform as the character you are auditioning for.

6. Auditions are only to determine where to place each cast member, everyone will have a part.

7. If you are trying for a wife or brother, you must be prepared to learn the dances.

Dance auditions will be held for certain parts in the Hoe Down and the Apache Dance.

4. Please review all schedules and let me know of conflicts as soon as possible.

Please be prompt.  The entire rehearsal can be held up waiting for late-comers.

5. Costume Fittings will begin shortly after the show is cast.  I will send out a memo and sign-up sheet.  All Wives, Brothers, Jacob, Narrator, Joseph must schedule the first costume fitting in October.   Youth Chorus can provide their own costume and accessories if they wish.  I will give each chorus member a color swatch for shirts, blouses, socks (bobby socks, knee highs or tights) and accessories, like hats, hair bows, etc. Pants, Jumpers, Skirts, Capris, Shorts must be khaki (tan).  Funky colorful shoes, hi-top converse style or low top canvas shoes will work, maybe some running shoes but w/o lights.  No black shoes.  Blouses and shirts may have a pattern but must be primarily the color given.  Neck ties may be worn also, but must be a contrasting color to the shirt or blouse.

6. A parent meeting will be scheduled in October to answer any questions, address your concerns and discuss all of the many things that parents and other family members can do to help with the show.  In the mean time, if you are interested in set building, painting, costume construction or alterations, promotion, or props, please let me know.  I would like to have a set building meeting as soon as possible.

If you have ever considered doing Joseph with JAKS...

Many of you have been on the JAKS merry-go-round for months, even years.  I hope it has been a rewarding ride.  But it was recently brought to my attention that you never get to plan anything on Saturday.  I just realized that I never get to plan anything on Saturday either.  I am changing the rehearsal schedule a bit to fix that.

The youth chorus rehearsals will remain on every Saturday morning but they are over at 10:30.  The rehearsals for the wives, brothers, Jacob, Joseph and the narrator will be 10:30-4:00 with a lunch break, every other Saturday.

If I find in a couple of months that we need some additional rehearsals we'll work it out then.

Hope this helps with your lives outside of JAKS.

Joseph Begins!

Hi, JAKS Kids past and present. 

We are starting our next show right away.  We are doing "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat"  We need boys to play 11 brothers who can dance and sing and harmonize, Joseph and Jacob, Girls to play the narrator and wives (dancers and singers who can harmonize), and kids to be in the youth chorus.  I would like to have 24 kids in the youth chorus and it is a very important part of the show.  These kids sing in every song, get on stage a lot, and do some dancing.  

 

First Joseph rehearsal-Everyone interested should be at this rehearsal to pick up scripts and cds:  Saturday September 13  1:00-4:00

Auditions:  Sept. 23, 24, 26      Casting will be done by Saturday Sept. 27 rehearsal

Fiddler Cast Schedule

Thank you all for being patient with me as I struggle with some of the issues regarding the performance dates.  I understand that the younger cast has put in as much or more time, worked as hard, and been as committed to this show as the older cast.  It seems to be the general opinion that the younger and older casts should split the shows at the Jeanne Wagner.  I was resistant to this because it wasn't the way I had it planned in the beginning, and didn't want to rock the boat.  However, after giving the matinee to the younger cast it left me with the realization that all of the cast members would get to play their parts on the Jeanne Wagner stage, except 2.  So, I have decided to split the shows, after all.  REMEMBER!! EVERYONE IS IN EVERY SHOW NO MATTER WHAT CAST THEY ARE IN.

Tickets & Program Ads

Hi everyone -

Thanks for your continued support in the home stretch!  A couple of very important, things.

1) Sell sell sell tickets!  There is a Facebook event, please spread the word.  We still need to sell 300 more tickets to break even on costs and these kids deserve a good audience for all their hard work!!  I will have them on hand at the theatre Monday and Tuesday, I have to return the pre-pulls Wednesday but they will continue to be available on ArtTix through closing night.

2) We are looking for sponsors for our programs/playbill!  Below are the details and pricing.  Please help us spread the word and do your best to increase our sponsorship.  From a marketing perspective this is minimal cost for the exposure, not to mention it's for a good cause!

Hi all -

Correction on my email yesterday, move in on Sunday starts at 9AM.  The truck will get there as close to then as possible and we can't keep it parked in the alley so please come and help unload/organize/build for a couple of hours and then you have your day back!

Microphones - 1 person from 530PM to end of show/tech rehearsal.  Don't be afraid to sign up for this.  We will have a list of mic changes and this person is responsible for ensuring the correct mic is on the correct cast member (and doesn't run off with the previous one) before they go on stage.  This means keeping track of them throughout the entire show and returning them to the sound booth afterward.

Set Crew AKA PIB (People in Black) - 5 people needed from 530PM to end of show/tech rehearsal.  These people need to be dressed in black from head (well neck) to toe so you cannot been seen when changing sets during blackouts. 

Greenroom Moms - 5 women needed from 530PM to end of show/tech rehearsal.  Spend the show in the greenroom helping kids with costume changes, hair and makeup fixes, making sure the kids are not hanging out in the dressing rooms, make their queues to be on stage and entertaining the little ones.

Hair/Makeup - As many as possible from 530PM to 730PM.  It's exactly what it sounds like - helping the kids with hair and makeup.
What to expect:

We have quite a few new cast members this show so hopefully I can provide some clarity on what to expect during tech week and performance nights. 

Tech week is the 3 evenings prior to opening night.  It is equally as important as our shows and therefore we have very high expectations. 

• The first night (August 11th) we are working on sound and lighting in addition to running a full dress rehearsal so there may be pausing and waiting for things to come together.  We need all cast members on time (5PM) and paying close attention to learn their queues and the full flow of the show. 
• The second two nights (August 12th & 13th) we run the show. Period.  We may as well have an audience because this is full show, cast, crew, etc. doing at least two full runs prior to opening night.  Again the entire cast must be there at 5PM, crew at 530PM.

We understand this is a busy and exhausting week for everyone, parents, cast and crew alike, however if you are new you will find that the energy of the cast (and Jill) is contagious and more than anything it's an incredibly exciting time! 

Performance nights are exactly the same as August 12th & 13th.  We need the entire cast to arrive no later than 5PM, crew at your designated times and stay through the end of the show. For the matinee these times are 12 noon for cast and crew.
