**Les Mis Update**

Hi, All,

Yesterday we got our contract for Les Miserables.  It was a very exciting day for me because Music Theater International, the company who hold the rights to Les Mis, denied our application.  Our representative from MTI explained that there is freeze in Utah on any performances of Les Miserables until 2015.  Then, there will be a national freeze because there will be a Broadway tour.  Apparently, there are three professional companies with the rights to Les Miserables in Utah in 2014.  I sent a convincing appeal and we were granted the contract.  But, we can only do 4 performances.  I really wanted to do 8, but we are lucky to be able to do any.

So, this is our moment.  We have an opportunity to do one of the greatest musical productions ever and we need to make it the greatest performance ever.  And, the thing is WE CAN!!!!  We have an amazing amount of talent already and hope to recruit more to fill the many roles.

We are doing the student version of Les Miserables which is cleaned up from the original and shorter.  But, it has all of the songs.  We need to stick to the script (there will be a few changes I will request from MTI to make it acceptable for children actors).

I hope most of you are planning to join us on this challenging journey.

Rehearsals begin September 3, 2013  7:00-8:30 at Performance Dance 201 E 2150 N  Layton (Off Antelope and Fort Lane)
Saturday September 7-Parent Meeting  10:30-12:00 at Performance Dance
Saturday September 7-Full Cast rehearsal 1:00-4:00
***We will begin rehearsing ensemble numbers, introduce the cast to the show and it's characters, give out scripts and CDs during the first couple of weeks.  Then we will set up appointments for auditions for the specific roles.  The auditions are held in Syracuse at 2491 S 1150 W.

Alumni:  We would love to have you join us for the People Sing number in the middle and the end of the show.  The more of you we have the more of an impact it will have.  There won't be much rehearsal time required, but I think it will be an amazing experience.

If you have any questions please email me or call  (801) 510-8414
Thanks.  I am looking forward to seeing you on the 3rd.

Bound for Broadway

Hi, All,
I realize that some of you are on several group listings for JAKS so you get more than one of the same email.  In the next few weeks we will try to compile a different list for information like this, so everyone only receives one.

Please look over the attached flier-I realize there is some duplicated information on it-but let me know if you or your child would be interested in a program like this.  Many of you aren't doing our next JAKS shows but are still interested in musical theater.  This might be a fun way to improve your skills or your childs skills.  And, of course if you are doing our next shows you would still be welcome.

If you would consider doing this program, or have other ideas about classes of this sort, please let me know.  We would like to begin as soon as possible, if there is enough interest.

Thanks.   Jill

Les Miserables-Please read this

Hi, All,

I realize that Les Miserables is a very dark and depressing show.  And, if you have concerns about your children doing this, I hope this helps dispell some of them.

Les Miserables is 3 hours.  We, obviously cannot do that.  I have requested the perusal copy of the school version and the original so I can compare them.  I think the school version will be minus the profanity, and the vulgarity and unnecessary violence.  Also, the school version is shorter.  We want our shows to be only two hours.

But, I will handle the show so that it portrays the poverty, and some of the desperation driving the revolution.  But, although we need the "Lovely Ladie's" scene, our version will not be graphic or include the adult lyrics.  And, the Master of the House scene will also be cleaned up.  I really hope the student version handles all of these things.  If not, I will send in my changes to MTI.

For the younger kids this show will be about the singing, the blocking, and choreography (although there are no real dances).  It will be a hard show, but will be an amazing production.

I hope this will make it easier to let your children participate.

Thanks.  Jill
